The Force™ 8 twin cartridge half mask with Typhoon™ valve offers superior low breathing resistance and a 4-point suspension harness with quick release buckles. Cleaning RPE
JSP ‘s product range of product suitable for offering some protection against Coronavirus can be broken down into two groups, disposable or reusable.
Disposable Masks
EN149 FFP2 and FFP3 disposable dust masks are intended to be disposed of after each use. There has been much discussion amongst users as to how the life of these can be extended in the current conditions. Cleaning or disinfection of the mask to kill of the Coronavirus is difficult due to the fibrous nature of the mask. Any cleaning process must kill the virus, not affect the filtration performance, not affect the fit of the mask and not leave any residue on the mask that could affect the users. JSP Limited have yet to identify a cleaning process that fits all these criteria and therefore do not recommend the cleaning or disinfection of disposable dust masks.
Reusable Masks
Reusable masks such as the Force™8 and Force™10 have been developed with cleaning as part of the design specification. However the cleaning methods used in the products normal application are not suitable for killing the Coronavirus.
Limited trials of different disinfection processes have been carried out. These show positive results when combined with the checks that are detailed in the standard user instructions for the products.
Wipes – Clinell and Isopropyl alcohol - leaving the filters in place on the masks and cleaning all surfaces with the wipes. Allow the mask to air dry. The Force™8 mask harness elastic straps may need to be removed for additional cleaning depending on local requirements.
Immersion – solutions of Milton™, Actichlor™, Hydrogen Peroxide (maximum 3%) - remove the filters from the mask and immerse in a solution diluted as advised by the manufacturer. After the required period, remove and rinse under clean water ensuring all traces of solution are removed. Allow the mask to air dry.
Vapour treatment – Hydrogen peroxide – hydrogen peroxide concentrations above 3% will have a detrimental effect on the polymer of the faceseal of the Force™8 and Force™10 masks. This sterilisation process is not suitable for the masks.
Washing - MEIKO TopClean M respirator cleaning and disinfection machine – using program 1 and drying at 50°C in a drying cabinet, disinfectant: EW 80 Mat (Dosing: 1 %) from EW 80 Systeme GmbH. rinse aid: GT 500 from etol-Werk Eberhard Tripp GmbH & Co.
A solution called Tristel can also be used
Reusable Powered Air Devices
The Jetstream and PowerCap Infinity devices include a number of textile and electrical components. Immersion disinfection is therefore not possible. Using wipes such as Clinell or cloth moistened with Milton™, Actichlor™ hydrogen peroxide (maximum 3%) clean all surfaces.
